I just love this spiced up version of Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp. There are many ways to make Garlic Shrimp; the best way I found is to let the shrimp be fried in a good amount of butter and vegetable oil combination, flavored by a lot of minced garlic and minced thai chili. The Butter and Garlic makes the dish and the Thai Chili brings it up to whole new level. Very Simple and Delicious.
“Spice it up to level up!”
I like to use the Headless and Deviened Shrimp with the Shell on (Shell will give it a crunch and keeps the Shrimp nice and juicy). If you can find the big ones, that’s great, but if not then, the 31/40 size is just perfect (meaning there is 31-40 pieces of shrimp in a pound), so the smaller the number the bigger the size and probably more expensive.
Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp is a very popular dish all throughout the Islands, served at food trucks, diners, drive ins and most local hawaiian restaurants. So, if you want to bring a little taste of Hawaii on your dinner table, this a dish you want to try. Spicy hawaiian garlic shrimp is so simple to make with very few ingredients needed. The more garlic the better. The secret is not to burn the garlic. This recipe will teach you a simple step by step way to cook it perfect every time. So try this in your kitchen and I am sure you will love this as much as I have. You are welcome to share this recipe with friends and family. But remember, without the Thai Chili Pepper, this is just another garlic shrimp dish.
These are just what you need to make this happen at the comfort of your own home.
1/2 lbs of Raw headless and deveined Shrimp with shell on (the shell will give it a good crunch and makes the meat tender and juicy, if you use the shell less shrimp then it may not get the crunch you want unless you overcook the shrimp).
10 cloves of minced garlic (add more if you want it more garlicky)
3 Thai chili peppers(regular chili flakes will do)
1 Stick of Butter (40z)
2/4 cup of Flour(enough to thinly coat the shrimp
1 tablespoon Paprika
1 tablespoon Garlic Salt
Salt to taste
A little vegetable oil or olive oil
1. Wash, Rinse and Drain the shrimp.
2. Mix the Garlic Salt, Paprika, and Salt in the bowl of flour.
3. Lightly dip the shrimp one by one in the seasoned flour mix and place on a plate or pan.
4. Heat the pan on low medium, add a little vegetable or olive oil.
5. Melt a stick of butter and bring to medium high heat and once the butter and oil becomes bubbly (boiling point)
6. Lay a layer of floured Shrimp one by one into the pan.
7. Fry for about 3 minutes until lightly golden.
8. Spread the Garlic and chili at this point when all shrimp are lightly golden.
9. Turn the shrimp over and cook for 3 minutes.
10. When all the shrimp are nicely gold and crisp, turn off heat and place one by one on a plate leaving the garlic butter on the pan to be drizzled on top of the shrimp. If you want less butter on your shrimp, just drizzle the garlic and chili only.
11. Serve with a bowl of rice and add a lemon twist or lemon wedge.
12. Squeeze some lemon on the shrimp, Eat and Enjoy!
I could never get tired of this Spicy Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp. It is by far the best garlic shrimp I have ever had!
