"Peel A Pound" Cabbage Soup


What is Peel A Pound Cabbage Soup? Simply put, this cabbage soup recipe was designed for a quick weight loss in one week. No meat, no oil, no fat! It’s history is traceable in the 80’s fad diet, but it’s intention was to help those that are preparing themselves for a surgery. By putting patients on this strict Cabbage Soup diet, they will lose at least 10 to 15 pounds. Without eating anything else, but just this soup, one is surely to lose the weight. So, if you are just trying to shed a few pounds or just beginning your mission to improve your health, this is a good dish to try for a week. You can eat as much, as often as you like. Just don’t cheat and add anything else to your diet. You can also eat some fruits with your “peel a pound” diet. And of course, drink lots of water.

"Peel a Pound" cabbage soup was originally a Hospital Diet that had gone viral without the internet, by word of mouth back the 80's. There's various versions of the original recipe, so let's just keep this simple and easy to make!

The reason I am showing you this dish is due to personal reason. I am starting a mission that is Not Impossible. To lose at least 10 pounds every other week. So, the plan is to eat this for a week, then go back to my normal diet with less carbs and sugar. So that I slowly bring myself back to my Tennis Playing Days. So here are the following ingredients you need for this very simple Peel a Pound Cabbage Soup.


1 head of cabbage (chopped ½ inch cut)

1 28 oz can of Whole Peeled Tomatoes

1 large onion, chopped in square

5-6 garlic clove minced

2 bell peppers (yellow or orange and green) sliced ⅓ inch cut

3 stalk of celery chopped

1 packet of Lipton Onion Soup Mix

2 pieces of bouillon

4 cups of water

½ teaspoon of chili flakes (optional, it brings a kick to this dish)


In a heated deep pot, pour the whole canned tomatoes and all the ingredients except the chili flakes, if the cabbage seemed like it is too much, add only half at first, cover and then add the rest when the first batch is reduced.


Bring to a boil and mix a little, cover and simmer on low to medium heat for about 35 to 45 minutes, occasionally checking and mixing the ingredients together.


After that add the chili flakes and simmer for about 5 more minutes, you don’t need to add salt and pepper, as this dish is quite tasty already.


Once the vegetables are done to your liking., remove from heat and let it cool off just a tad before serving. Serve yourself a bowl and Enjoy!


Make sure you don’t eat anything else but this Cabbage Soup for the entire week. In order to achieve your goal of dropping 10 to 15 pounds in a week time. If weight loss is not your issue, this will lower your cholesterol level a bunch. Refrigerate the rest and reheat only the portion you want to eat. Eat this dish as often as you want, because you will get hungry more frequently. At the end of the week, you will have a very positive result.
